War in Yugoslavia

You may access the last wartime version of this page here.
Since the air campaign is over, here's my thoughts on results of the war.

My Foreword

Yugoslavia didn't lost the war, because two very important positions of Rambouiette ultimatum were discarded:
1. Free movement of NATO forces within the whole Yugoslavia (not just Kosovo!).
2. Referendum in Kosovo in three years about succession from FRY.

NATO shown limited ability to conduct large-scale offensive operations using non-nuclear weapons.
You see, it got about best half (1200 pieces) of available NATO aviation and almost three months of bombings to make a compromise with Belgrade. Note that population of Yugoslavia is just about 11 million people, and Yugoslav army, despite it's good training, used stone-age air defense systems.

I bet that Herr Schroeder and Mr. Blare will not succeed on their next elections.

No one in good mental health now can say that NATO is defensive alliance and it doesn't pose any threat to Russia.

FRY Army lost about 140 men KIA, 20% of SAM installations, 9 tanks, 25 army trucks, some amount of planes (less than dozen) in result of NATO bombing campaign. The losses suffered from KLA evaluated to be at least 500 men MIA/KIA.

F-117A Stealth bomber proved to be useless.

Economy of FRY completely demolished. It should take decades to recover from damage.

I won't be Apache pilot.

Wreckage of 4 NATO manned aircraft was shown on TV. There should be some planes not shown on TV as well.
